Graduate Certificate in Gerontology

The Graduate Certificate in Gerontology is designed for three types of students:
  1. Those currently working in Aging or Human Services who need or desire formal training in Gerontology, but not a Masters Degree.
  2. Those in related Masters Degree programs, whose value to employers would be raised by formal training in Gerontology.
  3. Those who are interested in graduate training in Gerontology but are not yet certain whether or not they want a Masters Degree.
The Graduate Certificate in Gerontology includes a 9 semester hour core, plus 6 semester hours of electives in one of five interest areas.
  • A. Core Curriculum (and semesters offered)
    SOC 5400 (f): Sociology of Adult Development and Aging
    SOC 5420 (s): Health Care and Aging
    SOC/SW 5551 (f): Social Context of Services to Older Adults

  • B. Interest Areas and Courses (and semesters offered) (r=required, e=elective for Masters Degree in [interest area])

  • C. Business Administration - Choose 6 semester hours from:
    BUS 5150 (f): Executive Skills Development I (1.5 s.h.; r-MBA)

  • D. Interpersonal/Group Dynamics - Choose two of:
